I’m obsessed with new construction. Before my home was built four years ago, I visited several model homes in various communities before making my choice. It was a big decision that began with a vision. Life after divorce for me meant that for the first time in more than a decade, I’d be on my own again – a team of one living in a new city. Fortunately, the idea of starting over didn’t scare me; neither did moving to a new city. I’ve been doing that since the age of 18, so I know the drill. I had my Golden Retriever Marleigh and a circle of devoted sisters who would quickly come whenever I called. Besides the reassurance from friends that everything would be just fine, God himself had already given me a few glimpses of this promised land he was taking me to, and it looked promising indeed.
My new house was perfect for me – it’s nestled in a vibrant part of the city close to restaurants, shops, churches and hiking trails. The home itself is open-concept and ideal for entertaining guests. It has lots of stairs to help me stay fit on days when it’s just too cold to venture outdoors; and most of all, it’s peaceful. I call it My Haven. Surely the Lord God built this house, and he’ll build yours if you let him.
Scripture tells us that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain (NIV). The message translation of this verse is startling, so brace yourselves. It states, If God doesn’t build the house, the builders only build shacks! Just so you know – YOU are the builder, and the house is a metaphor for your family, your business, and your community.

Thanks for the food for thought, Michelle. Makes me wonder how many “shacks” I’ve built over the last years. 🤔 Thankfully, God can put steps in all of them! Blessings to you, my friend.

I’m not sure how we so easily forget that God wants to build with us. He has the plan anyway. Why wouldn’t we consult him?
